Post Test Metric System:
LEGO’s Team’s challenge; Ping Pong Robot
Customary System Quick Check using Clickers
1st class
- Make sure they activate the go button
- Start the ppt
- Give reasonable amount of time for students to answer
- The graphic displayed
- Bullet/smiley icon flew to the right answer
- Warning them to be serious and not being silly to choose the wrong answer
- Keeping them quiet so others can concentrate and not become bothered while working on the test. (Because they’re still thinking)
- Fast thinking, because they can’t go back and stuck on a certain number of questions. They have to face and answer the question right away.
- Ask them if anybody still need more time to think or change the answer.
2nd class
- Metric system chart using smart board
- Multiple choice only for Metric System research using clickers
- Ask teacher (are we going to use clicker again tomorrow?)
- A student said that: I know, it’s because I can’t go back and change my answer. And it was too long waiting for others to answer using the clickers.
Change value (,) decibel points.
Movement techniques: ask student to go to the smartboard and do the hops of the metric system
Definition how the unit of the length is used daily life
Worksheet -> use for study
Metrics unit of mass and capacity
Unit change but prefix is no change
Units=metric
Length=meter
Capacity=liter
Mass=gram
The schedule for 3 mini tests are:
a. Customary system: paper and pencil
b. Metric system: clickers/paper & pencil
c. Probability: paper & pencil
Tuesday, May 26: Review & Metric System
Fourth-graders composed animal report using Wikipedia and making movie/video using Windows Movie Maker.
Fourth-graders learning science by using Inspiration.
- Accessing internet using internet browser
- Editing pictures using paint, copy and paste image
- Insert graphics into Inspiration
- Students learn the images of plants
- Organizing ideas
- Learn how to print; proper size, layout of the diagram
- Find examples in a real world-context setting
- Filter the information
- Research
First-graders presentation about type of birds
- Exploring funbrain.com (type of birds games)
2. The assessment is called MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) Testing and uses software called Test Taker, the test software run using Adobe Flash player.
3. These are some issues that occurred during the test:
• Because students have to take the test twice, we had to check the first test that they completed and help them choose the next test.
• It is important to check and test the hardware and software before beginning the test. For example: the test required headphones to produce sound so that they could easily understand the test questions. Make sure the sound and headphones are synchronized and working together so that students aren’t bothered by that and won't bother other students.
• After the test, the results will be printed. By the end of the day, a teacher will upload the results on the website so that teachers, students and parents will be able to view them anytime and anywhere.
In. Mr. Jones Class (4th-graders Science)
Watch the video about part of flowers
1st grade learn how to read, vowel. www.starfall.com
1. 10 questions pretest to show teachers what students know and what teachers should teach what you don’t know
2. Divide 2 groups based on cycle measure
3. Teaching the lessons
a. Drawing chart
b. Teach them based on textbook using rulers on smart board
c. Practice using real rulers
Progress check
The accurate of students’ answers not how many questions they can answer
The same exact questions
Samuel suggested different room and tips to remember done metrics
Which question doest the student has most mistakes
Divide into 2 groups and explain number of boys and girls
No notes on clicker groups
Take your time no worry about the number of responses
Teach the lesson (metric system) after the pretest and from the textbook (p.56)
Practice to work cooperatively 8 questions in the book
Clickers
Students are afraid of/nervous/too stress about the time spent to answer each question. Based on number of responses, they are afraid of being the last person to answer (try harder)
Motivated
Time factor may play
What right percentage
Long responses
Some students were work together (chat)
More relax
Some get bored waiting the responses
While doing the test, a student seems so relax and enjoy, he even read a book while doing the test
Students like it better (easier), less stressing/nerving
Paper and Pencil
Finish faster than clickers
Work on their own
Results
Less pressure
Back to the questions again and again
Stuck a lot in just one question
Multiple choices advantages
In Mr. Jones class:
4th grade; using either Kidspiration or Inspiration software to create a concept map on plants:
4 pictures to put in the screen create links about your interest, let them share and teach each other, warn, stop and teach how to undo.
Observing Ms. Douglas 5th graders classes: Math1 and Math2
At the beginning of the class, Ms Douglas showing a video that made by them. Interviewer/interviewee, cameraman, MC, weather forecast-> role-play script (do the exact what the video shown)
Using clickers to review the math progress check.
Shaking hand and say good morning
Showing things: a gift from and for
Fact/fiction: 2 truths and a lie
Telling about you that you want others wanna know about you.
Introduce myself
Smart board use in class: touch screen and documenting the writing on the board.
Active students: gave them chance to raise hand
Checking their math work and work with the problem (how to solve) notes and charts.
Using clickers
Tell them this is the first time might be technical difficulty.
Talk about the clickers (introduce)
Response system, ppt
Sensor (back of the computer)
Record the answer
Progress check to know whether the students
Know who ready or not
Expectations what are the suppose they to before can still change until the polling is closed
To know where you at, engage & interactive -> tell the reasons why
Clicker expectations: (no timer)
Take care, use as a tool, follow our class rules, what are the penalties, answer to best of your ability, be patient, more tolerate, cooperate.
Tell them how to activate the clickers, distribute the clickers, polls open and close
Sometimes they have to click together to make sure everyone has clicked it.
Question point -> by certain indicator
Students’ reaction
This feels fun
Makes math easier
Think faster
Excited with the result who got it wrong and right
Respect to who got it wrong
Make them complete in fun ways
Self-motivated to be 100%
More improve to the next questions
So excited when everyone got them right
Protect from cheating
Explain why they got it wrong and right
Mistakes as experiments
Submit the clickers
Turning point -> hardware specs
Clicker; it collects data
Starts when everyone’s ready
Motivate students analyze problems
Fast results and critical thinking
Great assessment
Paper and pencil
Traditional, no fun, quiet, no excitement, less motivated, slow pace, cheating
Clickers
Help them using calculators
Don’t get too excited (remind them)
Working together
Track students more closely
Analyze the technology
All do math differently in may correct ways
(-) each students were telling each other the right answer to make it 100%
They will very satisfy if they were able to calculate it rightly
User feedback?
Think fastly
Avoid the same mistakes
Students reaction think the clicker was:
Interactive, awesome, use everytime before test, wait and participate with the whole class, math with fun, smart technology.
